Kotona Suomessa: Multilingual video series about Finnish society

Title

A seven-part, multi-lingual video series tells immigrants about different aspects of the Finnish society, ranging from taxation to human rights. The 'Understand Finland' (Kotona Suomessa) series is aimed at adult migrants already residing in Finland. The resources can be used as training materials or be watched independently.

In addition to Finnish and Swedish, the videos are available on YouTube in six other languages: Arabic, Somali, English, Russian, Kurdish and Dari. They are also adapted to audiences who may struggle with reading and writing.

The aim of the videos is to 'open up' Finland and give migrants a better understanding of the values and functioning of the Finnish society. The videos also provide information on some of the issues that the newcomer may face in Finland.

The videos cover, among other things, the role of (early childhood) education, the role of women, the importance of working, and tax issues. In addition, one video also describes what an 'average Finn' is, while another deals with honour-related violence.

The project is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF).
