In the context of a series of initiatives taken by the Ministry of Migration and Asylum in Greece, within the framework of the national strategy for integration and in particular the actions to strengthen intercultural mediation, a training programme for intercultural mediators was launched which has among its objectives the strengthening of social inclusion support for third-country nationals (TCNs).
The training programme has a total duration of 206 hours and is implemented under the umbrella of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum's Directorate of Social Integration - Intercultural Mediation Department, in cooperation with UNHCR and the following partners:
- Labor Institute of General Confederation of Greek Workers (INE GSEE)
- Centre for Vocational Training and Lifelong Learning of the Hellenic Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen, and Merchants (KEK GSEVEE)
- METAdrasi - Action for Migration and Development (coordinating body)
The training programme is based on the 'Professional profile of the intercultural mediator', certified by the National Organisation for the Certification of Qualification & Vocational Guidance. The main objectives of the initial pilot training programme are:
- to address the weaknesses identified in the field;
- to improve the quality of intercultural mediation services;
- to upgrade the level of knowledge, skills and competences of current and future professionals;
- to support TCNs and provide them with equal access to goods and services;
- to strengthen action on social inclusion for TCNs.
