A training programme for intercultural mediators launched in Greece in order to strengthen social inclusion support for third-country nationals (TCNs) in the country. The progreamme is part of a series of initiatives taken by the Ministry of Migration and Asylum in Greece in the implementation of the national strategy for integration.
The training programme has a total duration of 206 hours and is based on the professional profile of the intercultural mediator, certified by the National Organisation for the Certification of Qualification and Vocational Guidance. The main objectives of the initial pilot training programme are:
- to address the weaknesses identified in the field
- to improve the quality of intercultural mediation services
- to upgrade the level of knowledge, skills and competences of current and future professionals
- to support TCNs and provide them with equal access to goods and services
- to strengthen action on social inclusion for TCNs
The training programme is implemented under the umbrella of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum's Directorate of Social Integration - Intercultural Mediation Department, in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Labor Institute of General Confederation of Greek Workers (INE GSEE), the Centre for Vocational Training and Lifelong Learning of the Hellenic Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen and Merchants (KEK GSEVEE), and Action for Migration and Development (METAdrasi).
