A first-of-its-kind online job-seeking platform has been launched to support the work of the Adama integration centre, which is run by Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Caritas Hellas and UNHCR Greece and provides in-person employability and social services to refugees in Athens. The online platform, Adama Job Center, connects refugees seeking employment in Greece with prospective employers country-wide, responding to growing need for refugee employment as well as in various sectors of the Greek labour market.
This is the first initiative promoting refugee integration in Greece to have been created in accordance with the National Integration Strategy. Through the combination of both the Adama integration centre and the online platform, one of the main goals of the strategy is covered: that of improving the accessibility of the Greek labour market for applicants for and beneficiaries of international protection, and to facilitate employers' approaches to new employees in order to promote more inclusive working environments.
The online platform allows employers to post job vacancies and identify people to fill them, and allows potential candidates to browse and apply for these vacancies. In addition to connecting prospective employees and employers, it also provides information on relevant training seminars and workshops that jobseekers can make use of to improve their skills and employability, and presents information on refugees and refugee employment for potential employers, including through an FAQ page.
It is still too early to evaluate the effectiveness of the platform but data from the first few weeks of its operation implies that it promises to be a much-used resource.
