Finland: New website promotes integration of those fleeing Ukraine

Flag of Finland

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment in Finland has launched a new website sharing information on accessing services and the labour market for those fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The website is for use by those working in integration in Finland, to support them in providing answers to general questions around newly arrived Ukrainians.

Particularly useful on the site is the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section, which will be frequently updated. This section contains information on residence permits, the welcome preparations being made in municipalities, and new arrivals' right to access services, the labour market and the education system in Finland.

Finland is prepared to receive a large number of migrants and has announced - in line with the EU's Temporary Protection Directive - that all those fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine can apply for a residence permit based on temporary protection. Some Ukrainians arriving in Finland are applying for this temporary protection, while others - those who are holders of biometric passports - are able to stay in the country without a visa for three months if they arrive from within the Schengen area. Those who are granted temporary protection have similar rights to those of asylum seekers and are entitled to support from reception services. Unlike asylum seekers, those granted temporary protection also have the right to work and study in Finland without delay or restrictions.

The website can be accessed here. Further information can be found in English here.
