Finland: New campaign amplifies refugee voices

Flag of Finland

A new campaign has launched in Finland that gives a platform to voices and viewpoints that might not otherwise be heard.

The campaign gives migrants with a refugee background the opportunity to make their voices heard in terms of participation in Finnish society and services. It shares blog posts and social media posts created by people with a refugee background, connected and promoted by the hashtag #KuuleekoKukaan (#CanAnyoneHear).

The campaign is being built around the following thematic questions:

  • How have people with a refugee background had their voices heard in Finnish society? In what ways have they not been heard?
  • How are the dreams and goals of those with a refugee background supported?
  • What makes migrants with a refugee background feel a part of Finnish society? Which factors influence this?

The initiative is coordinated by the Osallisena project, which works to promote the participation of migrants with a refugee background in the development of integration services. The project also aims to improve the knowledge of immigration issues on the part of those working in municipalities and employment services. The project is funded by the EU's Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF). Insights into its work and activities, and examples of campaign posts, can be found on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
