Denmark: 21 integration projects at risk of losing national funding

Flag of Denmark

Since January 2024, public funding for the implementation of 21 integration projects across Denmark has been put on hold. The funding amounts to a total of 64 million DKK (8.5 million EUR), which has been redirected under an agreement with the national Prison and Probation Service. Clarity has not yet been given on whether or not this integration funding will be reinstated.

13 of these projects are NGOs: Børns Vilkår, Denmark's Sports Confederation, the Church Integration Service, Danner Women’s Shelter, RED, the Danish Refugee Council, the Foundation for Social Responsibility, the Danish Red Cross, Sabaah, LGBT Asylum, Kvinfo, Sisters against Violence and Control, and InsideOut. Some projects run by local municipalities are also affected. The funding in question is crucial to the running of most of these projects: several have been forced to make employees redundant and cease certain activities.

It is currently also unclear whether the funding allocated under the 2025 budget will be paid out. If it is not, several projects previously highlighted on EWSI could be at risk. These include BABA, Bydelsmødre (Neighbourhood Mothers), Friends Show the Way, DFUNK (DRC Youth), 2 Hours A Week, and New Mother.
