The Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports announced two funding calls for initiatives promoting the language learning and 'adaptation' of children fleeing Ukraine.
1. Call for applications from initiatives providing language courses to children of foreigners migrating from Ukraine, 2022
Objective:
This call aims to support intensive language courses for children aged 14 - 18 years who have arrived from Ukraine. The purpose of the call is to increase these children's knowledge of the Czech language, thereby decreasing the likelihood of their dropping out of school due to a lack of fluency.
Eligible applicants:
Eligible applicants for the call include public universities, legal entities registered in the school register, self-governing territorial units, municipal districts of the capital city of Prague, and voluntary municipality associations.

The funding provided under this call is for the delivery of intensive language courses - specifically, a block of 80 Czech lessons for a group of 4 - 10 children, held between 1 April and 31 August 2022. The unit cost of this is CZK 53 000.
A total of 150 000 000 CZK (approximately EUR 6 000 000) has been allocated for this call. Eligible applicants can receive a minimum of CZK 212 000, and a maximum of CZK 19 981 000.

2. Call for applications from initiatives running adaptation groups for children of foreigners migrating from Ukraine, 2022
Objective:
The aim of this call is to support leisure adaptation groups for migrant children aged 3 to 15 years that have arrived in the Czech Republic from Ukraine. The purpose of the call us to support the adaptation and socialisation of Ukrainian children to the Czech environment, to support the development of their Czech language language skills, especially in speaking, to prepare them for entry into Czech schools, and to promote their mental well-being.
Eligible applicants:
Eligible applicants for the call include public universities, legal entities registered in the school register, self-governing territorial units, municipal districts of the capital city of Prague, voluntary municipality associations, contributory organisations established by a municipality, region, or municipal district of the capital city of Prague, and non-governmental non-profit organisations operating primarily in the field of child and youth education.

The funding provided under this call is for the delivery of the following:
- Activity A: Leisure time adaptation groups for foreign children aged 3 to 6. To be delivered as a block of 20 hours of leisure activities with accompanying speech skills development, for a group of 12 - 24 children. The unit cost of this is 15 000 CZK.
- Activity B: Leisure time adaptation groups for foreign children aged 6 to 15. To be delivered as a block of 20 hours of leisure educational activities with accompanying development of Czech language skills, for at least 15 foreign children. The unit cost of this is CZK 15 000.
- Activity C: Leisure time adaptation groups for foreign children aged 3 to 15, organised by Type I and Type II municipalities. To be delivered as a block of 20 hours of leisure activities with accompanying language skills development for children of foreigners, for a group of 8 - 12 children. Only Type I or Type II municipalities can apply for this unit, the cost of which is 7 500 CZK.
Eligible activities will run from 1 April to 31 August 2022. Individual eligible applicants can receive a minimum of 150 000 CZK, and a maximum of CZK 75 000 000. A total of CZK 1 250 000 000 (EUR 50 000 000) has been allocated for this call.
