Czech Republic: Government approves mandatory integration courses

Title

On 6 June 2018, the Czech government approved an amendment to the Law on Foreigners which makes it mandatory for people who apply for long-term residence to take part in integration courses within a year after their arrival in the country. The 8-hour classes will cover their rights and obligations, as well the Czech Republic's basic values and cultural context. The classes will be taught by the network of regional integration centres and paid for by foreigners themselves or their employers.

The amendment also transposes the EU Directive on the conditions of entry and residence of third-country nationals for the purposes of research, studies and training. It still needs to be approved by the Czech Parliament.
