This annual report summarises the overall organisation of the migration, asylum, and integration framework in Slovakia. It is published by the European Migration Network (EMN)'s national contact point for Slovakia, and is up to date as of January 2024.
The report presents the main roles and responsibilities of relevant institutions, key policy developments, and changes brought about by the war in Ukraine.
Several changes in the responsibilities of different institutions occurred as a result of the outbreak of war in Ukraine in 2022. For instance, the Ministry of Interior has been providing financial support to individuals and legal entities - those not already in the accommodation sector - for the accommodation of temporary protection holders. The Ministry of Transport has also been supporting housing for temporary protection holders, through the provision of allowances for the accommodation of temporary protection holders to those conducting business according to a special regulation (so-called 'business entities').
The Ministry of Health, which supports the provision of healthcare for foreigners, ensures the legal framework for the provision of urgent and necessary healthcare to temporary protection holders and is working on simplifying access to the healthcare sector for Ukrainian healthcare workers, including by facilitating the recognition of their medical qualifications.
