The Ministry of Education adopted the Methodology on Romanian language introductory courses for foreign adults, which provides useful clarifications on the procedures and responsibilities of schools, school management and school inspectorates concerning the organisation, delivery and monitoring of Romanian language introductory courses for children.
The new methodology is aligned with the country's integration legislation. It sets a total number of 216 hours of language course over the year (36 weeks), divided into 3 modules (A1; A2; B1) according to CEFR standards. While individual schools are responsible for organising language courses, monitoring and assessment of the work is carried out by school inspectorates via a specifically-appointed inspector.
Both the course and the manuals are free to access for beneficiaries of international protection (BIPs), whereas other third-country nationals (TCNs) and EU/SEE citizens must pay a fee.
The Romanian language courses will end with an evaluation test that focuses on:
- oral comprehension;
- ability to express oneself and take part in conversations;
- reading and understanding written texts;
- writing texts.
Unlike the previous methodology on Romanian language courses for BIPs, the methodology also outlines the sources of funding for these activities, and how teachers will be paid.
