The Map of Good Practices for Reception and Integration of Immigrants in Portugal follows the 11th International Metropolis Conference, held in Lisbon, 2-6 October 2006, and is a partnership between the High Commission for Immigration and Intercultural Dialogue (ACIDI, IP), the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD), which funded this project. The statistical analysis underlying the data collected under this project was entrusted to Maria Lucinda Fonseca, Jennifer McGarrigle and Dora Possidónio of the Center for Geographical Studies, University of Lisbon.
It was intended with the mapping of the initiatives presented here to make a withdrawal, as wide as possible, of the multiple actors and activities in different sectors, dispersed throughout the country, that in view of the entities that promote them, make up examples of successful cases and capable of replication by other institutions and elsewhere.
The compilation of the initiatives was made over six months by IOM, through a widely distributed form of inquiry. It was requested the active participation of civil society organisations, private sector and public entities in multiple sectors. The work identifies 251 initiatives in continental Portugal and in the autonomous regions.
