Filipino nannies for Romanian children

At the end of 2010, 58.424 foreign citizens resided in Romania, out of which 48.300 only had temporary residence; the main countries of origin were Moldova, Turkey and China. In the first four months of 2011, out of the total 834 work permits, the most were issued for citizens from China, Turkey and the Philippines (112). The highest percentage of work permits was issued for nannies (78.57% Filipinos). In January 2011, approx. 400 Filipinos had a right to stay in Romania; most of them were domestic workers. Life and work in Romania The demand for Filipino work force emerged on the Romanian labour market around four years ago and increased significantly in the last two years, when more and more Romanians (business men, politicians, managers) described the advantages of hiring English-speaking domestic workers with certifications as nannies, available at any time and accepting modest salaries.
