Estonia: National report on the integration of applicants for international protection in the labour market

Flag of Estonia

This study, produced by the European Migration Network Estonia, focuses on the integration of applicants for international protection in the Estonian labour market between the period 2017 - June 2022.

The first section of the study provides an overview of the main trends among international protection applicants in Estonia, available data on the labour market situation they face, and relevant public and policy debates. In Estonia the number of asylum applicants and beneficiaries of international protection is low, with the exception of those displaced from Ukraine since February 2022 and the EU's related decision to launch the temporary protection directive.

The second section focuses on integration policies and strategies related to the labour market, and provides an organigram of the national institutional framework. Later on, the study examines aspects of access to the labour market, including whether or not the access process is automatic, the documents required, and the available support measures (including for self- employment). It concludes with an overview of good practices and challenges in the Estonian context.

The study can be viewed online here or accessed below.
