This study, conducted by the Czech branch of the International Organization for Migration (IOM Czechia), examined the financial and housing situation of displaced persons from Ukraine in the country.
The published findings are based on an analysis of 587 surveys conducted in person from 8 August - 27 September 2023, among displaced adults living in 11 regions of the country and in Prague. The final publication also includes qualitative information from comments provided by respondents in addition to their closed question responses.
Key findings
- 56% respondents live in standard rented housing and 75% of respondents, regardless of their accommodation type, cover housing expenses by themselves.
- The need for long-term housing is among the top 5 most pressing needs for those displaced from Ukraine. The main obstacles in finding such housing are the general unavailability of rental housing nationwide, a lack of funds to cover rent, and repeated rejection by property owners.
- 31% respondents said they are not able to cover their daily expenses.
- 50% respondents are experiencing problematic living conditions in their current accommodation, with the main issues being financial (77%).
