Czech Republic: Discrimination Does Not Belong to School!

Title

Despite the right to education being a fundamental human right declared in the Convention on the Rights of the Child, there are situations where children of migrant backgrounds are kept from attending school with their peers (due to the school's or parents' decision) and are not allowed to use their potential to their best. The purpose of this guidebook, published by the NGO META o.p.s., is to serve as a practical guide for teachers and parents on Czech schooling, dealing with the most frequent discriminatory situations children of migrant backgrounds may face in the process of studying, and offering suggestions on how to eliminate discrimination or prevent it.

Each of the eleven chapters includes recommendations for both teachers and parents. The book focuses mainly on primary school situations, because this period of education is compulsory for all children living in the Czech Republic. The authors also touch upon the topics of preschool education and secondary school education.
