Interesting results from a larger study are presented in this short, easy-to-read publication of 24 pages. It compares how young refugees are faring in the Nordic countries.
The larger research programme is named Coming of Age in Exile (CAGE), and investigates inequalities in the health and socio-economic situations of young refugees in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The programme is the result of collaboration between universities in the four listed countries, led by Copenhagen University from 2015 - 2020.
The research looks specifically at refugees aged 0 - 17 during the period 1986 - 2005, who were granted a residence permit in this time. The results presented also include data from a follow-up study in 2015.
The key focus areas of this publication are:
- education;
- labour market access;
- health;
- unaccompanied refugee minors;
- research findings.
The most significant finding is that the indicator scores for young refugees in Denmark fall below the scores for both the majority population and similar refugee groups in Finland, Norway and Sweden across almost all areas measured: education, labour market and health.
The publication can be downloaded here in English, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish and Icelandic.
