Bilitis Foundation published the Theatrical Studies Against Hate handbook. The publication aims to provide an innovative youth theatre methodology for working with young people on issues of prejudice against those from vulnerable groups, such as Roma people, LGBTI communities, refugees and migrants, and people with addictions.
The handbook offers a series of case studies for young people to touch on different social topics through the use of different theatrical and discussion techniques, in order to sensitise them to human rights-related issues present in society, evoking empathy and a sense of responsibility. It is designed for specialists who work with young people, such as teachers, trainers, social workers, youth workers and other experts. Previous experience in working with theatre methods is not necessary.
Within each group, three case studies are presented, each of them revealing a different conflict situation. The stories told in the case studies are based on real experiences of young people with whom the partner organisations work. The spaces where the action takes place are domestic spaces that most young people would recognise from their everyday lives.
The handbook was created as part of the “Development of a Network of Youth Theaters against Hate” project, financed by the Active Citizens Fund.
