In Lithuania, changes in politics and demographics have also triggered the demand for courses in the local language by non-native speakers, foreigners, and international students. For instance, the number of students taking Lithuanian language courses at the Department of Lithuanian Studies at Vilnius University was estimated at about 200 students per year (Ramonien, 2006). Especially after Lithuania’s integration into the European Union, the search for courses has been constant.
