The third issue of the Academic Bulletin “Refugees: today and tomorrow” for 2022 was published by the Bulgarian Council for Refugees and Migrants and UNHCR Bulgaria.
It analyses the dynamic and unpredictable situation of the people fleeing Ukraine and seeking temporary protection in Bulgaria, focusing on the waves of arrival and patterns of reception.
The bulletin also includes materials about:
- the revival of one of the most valuable initiatives in the field of refugee law: the legal clinics jointly run - since the beginning of this academic year - by UNHCR and Sofia University;
- the challenges of teaching Bulgarian as a foreign language;
- quality management in organisations working with refugees;
- the role of cultural mediation in working with refugees and migrants;
- the good practice of the “Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology” programme at Sofia University, which involves students in extracurricular activities with refugees;
- increasing knowledge on the subject of refugees, from a survey conducted with students at Sofia University;
- the life of an Afghan woman through a reading of Iranian director Samira Mahmalbaf’s film “Five in the Afternoon” (2003).
