Together towards better integration of immigrants

The goal of the project was to strengthen the capacity of the civil society, social partners, state administration, international organizations and third-countries national by providing education and promoting cooperation for better integration of the third-country nationals in Bulgaria. It also aimed at improving the quality of the services provided to the immigrants. The working group that was established under the Project conducted a survey on the educational needs of the parties involved in the integration process and based on the findings regional trainings were conducted as well as round table discussions for the establishment of network.  The trainings included topics such as EU experience and best practices in the integration process of third-country nationals; communication techniques and requirements for partnership and dialogue; dialogue techniques for building of effective partnerships; multicultural differences and the ways for their overcoming.

Project Goal

The main project challenges and goals at the same time were related to meeting the interests of the following project targeted groups and improve their capacity to communicate between each other during and after the project so that the immigrants integration is sustained:
• Third-country nationals who are long term residents in Bulgaria, living in big cities
• Representatives of various immigrant communities directly involved in the integration process of immigrants on local and regional level
• Representatives of  the non-governmental sector
• Municipalities
• Local governments
• Educational institutions

Who benefits

More than 370 immigrants in Bulgaria, namely third-country nationals who are long term residents in Bulgaria, living in the biger cities of Bulgaria as well as various immigrant communities directly involved in the integration process of immigrants on local and regional level, representatives of  the non-governmental sector, local governments and educational institutions

How it works

The Project created a solid base for future partnership and cooperation by establishing a wide network of project stakeholders, involved in the integration process of immigrants. The representatives of the immigrant groups took part in various trainings, which contributed for the development of new skills and strengthened their capacity.  By taking part in the Project, the parties gained experience and knowledge on how to seek and use the services and opportunities that are available to immigrants. 

Results

The results of this Project have continuous impact on the target groups and the communication and the cooperation between the central and local authorities, social partners, international organizations, NGOs and third-country nationals in Bulgaria was strengthened. The direct project results were:

- Established network for the integration of third-country nationals involving  civil society organizations, state administration at national and local level
- Strengthened organizational capacity of the network to work jointly, initiate  and coordinate the implementation of  the policies for integration of immigrants
- Carried out joint activities and new coordination mechanisms and infrastructure (body) uniting  public institutions and stakeholders within the informal network to raise awareness and exchange information on third-country nationals integration; national policies and legislation

   

Evaluation

The evaluation of the project was done and the project results accepted by the implementing agency managing the European Integration Fund for Bulgaria at the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy.
