The project, carried out in partnership with the Romanian Ministry of Education, aimed to organize free Romanian language classes and socio-cultural orientation classes for 300 adults, residents of Romania, but natives of countries that are not members of the EU. The classes took place in Bacu, Bra_ov, Bucure_ti, Cluj-Napoca, Constanca, Ia_i, Oradea, Suceava and Timi_oara, in the period February – May 2011, and were taught by specialized teachers, who underwent training classes for accredited trainers. Also, through the participants in these classes, over 200 TCN residents were informed and assisted regarding access to medical services, and over 200 children with TCN parents were guided for a better integration in the educational system in Romania.
Project Goal
The general objective of the project was to support the integration of TCNs in Romania with a native language other than Romanian. The specific objectives of the projects were:
- improving the Romanian language knowledge of 300 TCN residents in Romania with a native language other than Romanian
- improving the knowledge regarding Romanian culture and society of 300 TCNs resident in Romania
- enhancing the capacity to access medical services for 200 TCN residents in Romania with a native language other than Romanian
- ensuring the support for integration in the educational system of 200 children with TCN parents
How it works
- Drafting the training course for trainers. The materials for the teachers of Romanian language to the adult TCNs within the project were drafted in the first months of the project.
- Obtaining the accreditation for the training of trainers course. The accreditation file was submitted to the Ministry of Labor and authorization was awarded in December 2010.
- Preparing the materials: revision, correction and re-editing of the materials of the project were carried out.
- Selecting the trainers. The Ministry of Education selected the trainers through the county school inspectorates. 20 Romanian language teachers were selected.
- Online class for training of trainers. The online component of the training of trainers took place through the online training platform available at http://cursuri.intercultural.ro.
- Seminar for trainers, in December 2010 and January 2011 in Timisoara. All teachers participated and graduated, becoming authorized trainers by the Ministry of Labor.
- Local classes took place in Bacau (1 group), Bucharest (7 groups), Brasov (1 group), Cluj Napoca (1 group), Constanta (4 groups), Iasi (1 group), Oradea (1 group), Timisoara (1 group).
- Evaluation by an independent assessor.
- General management of the project – carried out through the entire duration of the project.
Results
The targeted results were:
- 300 TCNs beneficiaries of the Romanian language classes;
- 300 TCNs beneficiaries of cultural orientation classes
- organization of classes in Bacau, Bucharest, Brasov, Cluj Napoca, Constanta, Iasi, Oradea, Timisoara in the period February – June 2011 by specialized teachers who had benefited from training of trainers classes.
- 1 Romanian language manual used during the project
- 1 cultural orientation manual used during the project
- 200 children of TCNs supported for integration in the educational system
- 200 TNCs assisted in view of accessing health services
- Editing and printing 1 brochure, entitled “Integration in Romania” with the purpose to inform TCNs and their children regarding access to education and health care systems

The target group of the project is composed of 300 beneficiaries of Romanian language classes, 300 beneficiaries of cultural orientation classes, 200 children beneficiaries of support for integration in the educational system and 200 TCN beneficiaries of support for accessing health services.
