Outdoor activities with young people

The activity is addressed to young foreigners living in deprived areas of the city. These immigrants have to learn a new language, discover a new culture, leave their friends and form now bonds, adapt to an academic pathway which is sometimes very different from that of their of country of origin. In addition, they often have to learn to cohabit for the first time with all the family or with a new family formed as a result of migration. All of these changes serve to disorient young people. The social workers try to establish a relationship with them and to set up opportunities for meeting, socialization, sport and opportunities to set out on the road of active citizenship, mainly through games and sports.

Project Goal

The lack of opportunities for young people in various areas of the city is aggrevated by the increasing presence of young immigrants. In addition to this, these minors express new needs in the city: language, familiarization with the city, rebuilding inter-generational relations with parents and relatives, rejoined and rediscovered after a long time. The risk is to set up an integration path only in marginal sectors. Objectives - Improve the opportunities for neighbourhood activities for young people; - Helping young people to get to know the Turin area; - Suggest educational and job possibilities; - Organize discussions on specific relevant topics e.g. drugs, sexuality.

How it works

The goals are reached through the following activities: - a daily presence in parcs and other public spaces where young foreigners hang out; - organization of sports events and neighbourhood parties; - networking with associations and other bodies dedicated to a specific area; - meeting with adults (families, teachers, etc.); - an information bus with cultural mediators is available in the areas of intervention.
