Support for integration in Lithuania and Lithuanian society through the Lithuanian language, history and culture: literature, documentary, artistic cinema, music and theatre, visual art courses and sightseeing trips.
Project Goal
The main task of the project is to organise targeted seminars, lectures, intensive courses and other events in order to strengthen social resources, competences and other abilities, fostering social, economic, cultural and political integration of third country nationals into receiving society. In addition, such activities improve the knowledge of third country nationals about the most important political, cultural and social processes in Lithuania. The project was carried out in Vilnius and Kaunas, two biggest cities of Lithuania.
How it works
The following services are provided in the learning centre for third country nationals:
- Lithuanian language courses (Lithuanian language courses facilitate integration of third-country nationals and promote knowledge through communication with the majority of the society);
- Lithuanian historical-cultural knowledge courses;
- Lithuanian historical-cultural museums, exhibitions and theatres (Lithuanian major historical achievements, geography, diversity, the basic norms and values, etc.);
- Cognitive historical-cultural excursions in Lithuania, etc.
Results
- 157 third-country nationals were involved in project activities;
- 18 people in Vilnius and 8 in Kaunas finished Lithuanian language courses;
- 108 people in Vilnius and 40 in Kaunas finished courses of Lithuanian history;
- 100 people in Vilnius and 41 in Kaunas finished courses of Lithuanian culture.
Evaluation
According to an informal evaluation, interest in the project is very high as project coordinators annually exceed the result indicators. Consequently, the number of participants (third-country nationals) is usually higher than provided in official reports.
Who benefits
Third country-nationals is the beneficiary group as they are introduced to the Lithuanian nation, language, history, politics and culture. After such courses, third-country nationals can successfully integrate in the receiving country. In addition, language courses facilitate integration into the labour market and give an access to different kind of information, communication, social resources and networks. On the other hand, activities, provided under the framework of the project, reduce the likelihood of social exclusion and marginalisation.
