On 20 March the Slovak government further extended the provision of accommodation allowance to those displaced from Ukraine, until 30 June. It also standardised the allowance, setting it at 6 euros per night per person regardless of age, as long as one of the following conditions is met:
- The accommodation is in a non-residential building used for short-term lodging, and the lodging is not provided based on a license according to the Trade Licensing Act (accommodation provided by legal entities).
- Municipalities and higher territorial units provide the accommodation free of charge directly or through their budgetary or contributory organisations.
The accommodation allowance for refugees staying in apartments and family houses remains unchanged, at 5 euros per night regardless of age.
By extending the provision of this paid allowance, including adjusting the amount, the government ensures housing for refugees and also creates space for preparing the necessary legislative changes. These changes aim to make housing aid for refugees more targeted, especially for vulnerable groups, and to ensure the sustainability of this form of assistance for future periods.
