Portugal: Extension of temporary protection for those displaced from Ukraine

On 9 March the Portuguese government approved a decision to extend by six months the temporary protection granted to those that have been displaced by the war in Ukraine. The decision was made official on 13 March, with Resolution of the Council of Ministers no.22-D/2023.

Since the beginning of the war in 2022 Portugal has granted temporary protection to 58 414 people displaced from Ukraine, of which 34 099 are women and 24 315 are men. Minors represent 25% of the total. The highest numbers of people granted temporary protection in this time are registered in the municipalities of Lisbon (12 461), Cascais (3 714), Porto (2 995), Sintra (1 970) and Albufeira (1 448).
