Lithuania adopted a strategic plan to improve migrant integration, including 2 new thematic focuses under which programmes will be developed by April 2025: sociocultural integration and mental health support.
The sociocultural integration programme will include 40 hours of training on local culture, values, laws and social services, with a view to helping newcomers adapt faster to their new environment. A mental health care framework is being developed around the MHPSS (mental health and psychosocial support) pyramid, offering support ranging from basic emotional care to specialised therapy.
The initiative behind the strategic plan, coordinated by the Refugee Reception Centre, will primarily support people displaced from Ukraine but will also be open to other foreigners. Its tools are based on best practices developed in the Nordic countries and adapted to Lithuania's context. The programmes will be implemented at municipal level, ensuring public services and equal opportunities for all.
Funded by the European Economic Area and Norway Grants, this effort aims to create sustainable solutions for integrating newcomers while reducing strain on public resources.
