Lithuania's Ministry of Social Security and Labour announced that the period of state support for those hosting refugees from Ukraine is to be extended, from 3 to 6 months. This means that the Lithuanian government will continue providing 150 EUR per month to households hosting a Ukrainian refugee, plus 50 EUR for each additional person they take in.
As previously reported on EWSI, households will begin receiving compensation from the second month after they welcome new arrivals. During this period, those being hosted are expected to secure a job and arrange their own housing.
Nearly 64 000 refugees from Ukraine have registered in Lithuania so far, including almost 24 000 minors. Earlier in June, NGO Stiprūs kartu (Strong Together) warned of a 'critical' shortage of accommodation options for refugees arriving from Ukraine.
