Ireland: New project supports migrant and refugee victims of crime

In Ireland, migrant and refugee support organisation Doras launched a new project dedicated to providing specialist assistance to migrant and refugee victims of crime.

The Migrant Victim Support Project is a response to the complex and increasing needs of migrant and refugee victims of crime in Ireland, affected by such issues as racism, hate crime, gender-based violence (GBV), human trafficking, labour market exploitation, and modern slavery. The project works to address gaps in service provision for such victims of crime who have special protection needs, and who lack the necessary information or confidence to engage with mainstream service providers.

Civil society groups have been repeatedly highlighting the underreporting of crimes - such as racism and domestic violence - by migrants, and the project, which is funded by Ireland's Department of Justice, may also go some way towards addressing this.
