Greece: “Together!” student art festivals promote refugee integration

Flag of Greece

The “It Could Be Me – It Could Be You” project in Greece uses experiential learning, theatre and educational drama techniques to raise awareness in the educational community about refugees and human rights, thereby promoting the integration and social inclusion of refugees in the community.

The project is organised by the Hellenic Theatre/Drama & Education Network (TENet-Gr) in association with UNHCR Greece, and - almost 10 years since its inception in 2015 - now runs activities in 19 cities across the country.

From 9 April to 15 June 2024 the project is organising the "Together" student art festivals. These will be attended by more than 3 500 students from 200 schools, including refugee children, as well as by teachers, theatre professionals, parents and local communities.

All those who participate will have the opportunity to take part in workshops and performances. Having worked at school on concepts such as empathy, acceptance of the other and understanding of the right to equal opportunities for every individual, the children will participate - free of charge - in activities ranging from theatre presentations and improvisations to radio broadcasts, films and art activities.

The project also collects and distributes educational material for teachers - including guides, exercise manuals, and activity resources - and provides long distance support and counseling for educators.
