Greece: Extension of residence permits for people displaced from Ukraine

A new ministerial decision (990046ΜΔΨΟ-Σ1Λ) sets out the extension of temporary protection status for people displaced from Ukraine in Greece. All such residence permits have been renewed for an additional period of six months, from 4 March - 4 September.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and until January 2023, 23 312 electronic applications have been submitted and 21 964 temporary protection permits have been issued in Greece. 15 059 (69%) of these permits were for women and 6 905 (31%) for men, and in terms of age 6 492 (29.6%) were issued to minors and 15 472 (70.4%) to adults. More specifically, according to the Ministry of Migration & Asylum, the overall age breakdown of individuals granted permits so far is as follows: 

  • 24%: minors up to the age of 13
  • 5.6%: minors aged 14 - 17
  • 24.2%: adults aged 18 - 34
  • 37.2%: adult aged 35 - 64
  • 9%: adults over the age of 65
