A year after the TPD activation - experiences and lessons in Europe

Flag of Sweden

The Swedish Delegation for Migration Studies (Delmi) and the European Migration Network (EMN) in Sweden will hold a conference on the conditions, experiences and challenges behind the implementation of the Temporary Protection Directive (TPD) across the European Union (EU).

The TPD was activated for the first time in March 2022, and has now been extended until 24 March 2024. With this in mind, the conference will look at the following questions:

  • Why is the TPD so unique and central to understanding the challenges of refugee reception in Europe?
  • How can we describe the conditions for refugee reception before the TPD was activated?
  • What can we expect to happen after March 2024, and how do we prepare for different scenarios?

The conference is aimed at practitioners, migration experts, and academics, as well as those in civil society and the media who are interested in the conditions for asylum in Europe.
