Poland: The mass arrival of people displaced from Ukraine - the Polish and Lithuanian reception models

Polish flag

The aim of the conference 'The mass influx of refugees from Ukraine as a result of the Russian aggression. Polish and Lithuanian reception models' is to understand why the large number of people displaced from Ukraine who arrived in Poland since the start of the Russian aggression on 24 February 2022 did not cause a 'refugee crisis'. The conference is organised by the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw.

The event will bring together representatives of the church, including church organisations, as well as the state and academia. The conference proposes that the response from the central and local governments, the church, and NGOs, as well as the spontaneous support of the Polish society helped welcome those displaced from Ukraine. The role of the church and state will be examined. The reception models in Poland and Lithuania will also be presented, along with examples of good practices.

The event will begin with a mass at 10:00 local time in the chapel of St Joseph on the Wóycicki campus, and the conference will start at 11:00.
