The Estonian Integration Foundation, in cooperation with the Estonian National Museum (ERM), is hosting a public discussion with the theme of "Language as a window to society".
The event will take place on 22 June at 16:00 in the Pööriöö café at the ERM. Participants from diverse origins and backgrounds will discuss the Estonian language learning journey and how it has changed and influenced their perception of Estonian society, perceptions and coping mechanisms.
There will be first be a panel discussion with Celal Yildirim, a maths teacher at Tallinn Laagna Gymnasium, actress Jekaterina Novosjolova Linnamäe, Ritvars Menniks, a member of the Pärnu Language Café, translator Erle Nõmm and Radio 4 editor Petr Sushkov. This will be followed by discussion with the audience.
The event will be recorded and published on ERM's Youtube channel with subtitles in Russian and English. The next such discussion will take place in Tallinn, in August, and in Narva in September, in cooperation with the Integration Foundation.
