Croatia: School integration of refugee children

Flag of Croatia

The "School integration of refugee children: lessons learned and future challenges" conference is organised by the IRCiS project - a mixed-method study on the efficacy of contact-in-school interventions for building positive intergroup relations among refugee and host-society children - and the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia.

At the conference, the needs of refugee children - identified during the school integration process and through two intervention programmes - will be presented as the project's results. One of these two programmes is for schools with child refugee students and is aimed at developing positive social relations between domicile children and refugee children; the second is for schools yet to receive refugee students and is aimed at preparing domicile children to welcome them. These programmes have so far been tested in 24 schools in Zagreb, Karlovac, Sisak and Zadar. The experiences of participating children and teachers at these schools will be shared at the conference.

The conference is of particular relevance to key actors involved in the education and integration of refugee children, especially schools that have already included them or are preparing to do so. For those wishing to attend either online or in person, prior registration is necessary.
