Nordic Council of Ministers Office in Estonia logo

The Nordic Council of Ministers’ Offices in Estonia - in collaboration with the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research, the University of Tartu, the Tartu Welcome Centre, the UNHCR Representation for the Nordic and Baltic Countries, and the Swedish Embassy in Tallinn - is arranging international conference “Integration through education and engagement of local actors” on 24 October 2023 at the KUMU Art Museum of Estonia,Tallinn.

The conference will focus on the role of education in integration processes at the local level and experiences and practices of integration for refugees from Ukraine in the Nordic-Baltic Region. Representatives of academia, local governments, and state organisations in the Nordic-Baltic region will present knowledge and basic data on immigration and integration in their home countries and organisations, followed by joint discussions. The first keynote speech will be delivered by Kristina Kallas, Estonian Minister of Education and Research. Presentations from Sweden, Finland, Norway, Latvia and Lithuania will follow.

The conference is arranged in the framework of the Nordic-Baltic project FOR-IN, running from 2022 - 2024. The project aims to foster refugee and immigrant integration at the local level by creating country-specific intersectional cooperation models and regional networks of practitioners in the Nordic-Baltic Region. The project will allow participating countries to learn from each other and to apply this new integration knowledge to everyday practice at the local level.

The project is prepared and launched through collaboration between the Nordic Council of Ministers, UNHCR, the Ministry of Culture of Estonia, the Ministry of Education and Research of Estonia, and many other partners. The conference programme is available online here.

Registration will close on 17 October.
