This year, as part of Ireland’s centenary celebrations of the 1916 Easter Rising, the Community Foundation for Ireland (CFI) themed much of their grant under the banner of #Belonging16 and conducted a survey whereby they asked almost 1000 people about what it meant to belong to modern Ireland. On 12 October 2016, the CFI will be launching the findings with an event featuring panel discussions, photography exhibition, guest speakers and much more.
The Belonging16 report is discussing the following questions:
- What does it mean to belong in Irish society?
- How do migrants feel about their sense of belonging?
- Do older people have a greater sense of attachment to their communities than younger?
- Do the LGBT community feel a greater sense of belonging post referendum?
- Who in our society is feeling excluded?
